April 28, 1758 - James Monroe born to Spence and Elizabeth Jones Monroe, in Westmoreland County, Virginia.

1776 - Monroe graduates from William and Mary.

1776 - James Monroe joins the Continental Army and serves at the Battle of Trenton.

February 16, 1786 - Monroe marries Elizabeth Kortright.

1794 to 1796 - Serves as Minister to France.

1799 to 1802 - Serves as Governor of Virginia.

1814 to 1815 - Concurrently serves as Secretary of State and Secretary of War.

1817 to 1825 - Monroe serves as President of the United States.

July 4, 1831 - James Monroe dies on the 55th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
