President James Monroe Dollar Coins

As the fifth installment in the new Presidential Dollar Coin Series, James Monroe Dollars will arrive in February of 2008. The $1 coins are being introduced in accordance with the Presidential Coin Act of 2005, which requires the United States Mint to strike the coins in commemoration of former US Presidents in the order in which they served in the office. Monroe was born in Virginia in 1758. He served as the Govenor of Virginia, US Secretary of State and he was Secretary of War during the War of 1812. He served as President of the United States from 1817 through 1825.
